I remember singing this song in the children's church.
Zacchaeus was a wee little man
And a wee little man was he
He climbed up in a sycamore tree
For the Lord he wanted to see
And when the Savior passed that way
He looked up in the tree
And said, 'Zacchaeus, you come down!
For I'm going to your house today
For I'm going to your house today!'
Zacchaeus was a wee little man
But a happy man was he
For he had seen the Lord that day
And a happy man was he;
And a very happy man was he
In Luke 19:1-10 (NLT), we find Zacchaeus, a wealthy tax collector, transformed from a heart of greed and corruption to one of generosity and compassion.
Zacchaeus could not see Jesus because of his short stature. So he climbs a tree. This act of climbing a tree symbolizes his willingness to go to great lengths to encounter Jesus.
What will you do to encounter your Savior, Healer, Deliverer, Provider, Leader, and Hope?
Our temptation is to do the "churchy thing" everyone else does, hoping it is good enough. The problem is, it isn't.
You watch other followers of Jesus and see their passion, service, and life that impacts your life - but you don't know what they had to do to get there.
What trees did they have to climb?
Let me know in the comments below what lengths you've had to go through to encounter Jesus. You may encourage someone today through your story.
Dear Jesus, help me to encounter You in a new and wonderful way today. AMEN.
