Loneliness is a powerful emotion that is addressed in the Bible.
Psalm 139:7-10 (NLT) proclaims that there's no place where one can flee from God's Spirit (presence). But God isn’t insensitive to our condition. The isolation and burden that the heart can feel are acknowledged and answered with the Word's offers of solace and guidance.
God remains our constant companion. Hebrews 13:5 (NLT) assures us that God will never leave us nor forsake (abandon) us. This truth stands up to loneliness's power by reminding us of God's unfailing love and presence.
Loneliness invites us to seek a deeper relationship with God, like Elijah in his solitude (1 Kings 19:9-13) (NLT).
Loneliness can push us to draw nearer to Him in prayer and worship.
The Bible even encourages us to build a faith community with love and service to those who feel alone. In Galatians 6:2 (NLT), we're called to bear one another's burdens.
Dear Jesus, help me in my times of loneliness but lead me to help someone in theirs too. AMEN
