Praying and Fasting
So far, so good. Remember, if you struggle at this, you're probably doing it right. Hell doesn't want you to be successful. They know if you connect with God, He will answer.
My Level 1 fasting is sugar. While I don't eat a lot of it, I LOVE it! Whenever I see a dessert, I think I have to have it. My level 2 is certain meals on certain days. While I will get a headache from missing a meal or two, it's worth it.
How do I know that it is worth it? Because I know that God answers prayer.
In The Circle Maker (see my last post if you would like to get a copy of one for yourself), Mark talks about Honi, The Circle Maker.
Honi the Circle-drawer was a Jewish scholar of the 1st century before Christ. According to Jewish oral tradition, he drew a circle and prayed inside it; then, he told God he would not move until it rained. At this point, a light rain started, and Honi let God know that he was not good enough that he anticipated a heavier downpour; Then it began to pour heavily. He asked for an ordinary downpour, and the rain abated and became a slow, steady rain.
What are you drawing circles around?
I don't know about you, but drawing a circle and demanding that God answer your prayer seems aggressive, even manipulative. But Honi did see it that way. There was a drought, and God's people were in trouble. Honi didn't ask for anything God couldn't or couldn't do.
What is God's will about your prayers? Discovering His promises and praying for His will would be a good idea. Don't pray to make life easier; pray for God to get the credit through His actions. Pray for greater faith to meet you at your point of need. Pray that God's will be accomplished in your life today.
What to pray for today.
Pray for marriages. I see a powerful attack against couples. Pray that they will be open to allowing God to lead them through this season.
