Never Forget

BIBLE READING: 1 Tim. 3: 6 - 10 6 A church leader must not be a new believer, because he might become proud, and the devil would cause him to fall. 7 Also, people outside the church must speak well of him so that he will not be disgraced and fall into the devil's trap. 8 In the same way, deacons must be well respected and have integrity. They must not be heavy drinkers or dishonest with money. 9 They must be committed to the mystery of the faith now revealed and must live with a clear conscience. 10 Before they are appointed as deacons, let them be closely examined. If they pass the test, then let them serve as deacons.

BLOG: 18 years ago today. My blood still runs cold as the day I saw the second plane hit the second tower.

Standing in my living room, I was ready to go to work. About to walk out the door, I noticed something out of the corner of my eye. A burning building on TV. Not just any burning building, but the World Trade Center. I listened as the newscasters tried to make sense of it all. They were speculating the kind of plane that had struck the building. But they were guessing to small. I knew it had to be a jet of some sort. Then it happened. The second plane hit, and all was clear. We were under attack.

I immediately went to church. I knew that there would be a flood of phone calls and emails. Betty was calling me from the house with every update. The Pentagon, a building, falls then the second. The report of another plane crashing in Pennsivila. All flights grounded. Air Force One is in the air. The calls came, and people were afraid.

That night we called a special worship service to honor those who had fallen, to pray for our nation, and to find some solace in this madness. All of us knew that our world would never be the same.

Psalm 33:20-22 20 Our soul waits for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. 21 For our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name. 22 Let your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us, even as we hope in you.

For 18 years now, we have endured the evil that others would pour out on us. We live with caution every day. What do you do?

Walk in the Spirit, not in the flesh. (Galatians)
Live in love, not in fear. (2 Timothy)
Worship God (Acts 2)
Worship with others (Hebrews)
Pray for each other (Ephesians)
Give (Acts)
Love one another (John)
Help others (Galatians)
Read your Bible (Psalms)

And don't forget! God was with us on 9/11, and He is still the same God who is with us today.

PRAY: Dear Jesus, I want to live in the freedom of Your Holy Spirit, not in fear of this world. AMEN
