Dorian - The Day After
BIBLE READING: 1 Tim. 1: 12 - 14 12 I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength to do his work. He considered me trustworthy and appointed me to serve him, 13 even though I used to blaspheme the name of Christ. In my insolence, I persecuted his people. But God had mercy on me because I did it in ignorance and unbelief. 14 Oh, how generous and gracious our Lord was! He filled me with the faith and love that come from Christ Jesus.
BLOG: Today is the day after Dorian. The unwanted houseguest finally left late last night. Now that we are on the "other side" of this event, there are a few things on everyone's mind.
How do I get caught up on all the money and time I lost. You don't. Pick up from where you left off.
What if another hurricane comes? Maybe. I've seen it before. Don't eat the hurricane supplies now.
Get the shutters down — at least some of them. The fire department will eventually come by and tell you to take them down. But get some sunlight in your house as soon as you can. It will help fight depression.
Yes, there is depression. All the hype and energy you have expended over the last few days is exhausting. If you feel down, don't worry. You'll pick back up after some rest and sun.
Proverbs 4:23 Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.
Fear is a powerful feeling, and if there is anything that can get your fear going, it is a big hurricane. Now is the time to calm your heart and mind. Focus on the things you should be grateful for. This hurricane has passed, now it is time to move on.
PRAY: Dear Jesus, calm my heart and mind today. AMEN
P.S. We will be receiving an offering of the Bahamas this Sunday. If you cannot attend or wish to do something right now, go to our website to give. (click here) We work with Convoy of Hope. A powerful disaster relief organization which is already in the Bahamas offering help and assessing the need.
