BIBLE READING: 1 Timothy 6:1-21. 11 But you, Timothy, are a man of God; so run from all these evil things. Pursue righteousness and a godly life, along with faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight for the true faith. Hold tightly to the eternal life to which God has called you, which you have declared so well before many witnesses. 13 And I charge you before God, who gives life to all, and before Christ Jesus, who gave a good testimony before Pontius Pilate, 14that you obey this command without wavering. Then no one can find fault with you from now until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again.
What does this passage mean to you?
BLOG: Stress is a fact of life. If you have no stress at all, you might need to check your pulse. There is good stress and bad stress. (We’re not going to talk about that today.). But I do want to help you discover a few important steps that will help you destress.
“for whoever has entered God's rest has also rested from his works as God did from his.” Hebrews 4:10
God took a day off, you should too. Rest is good. Rest from work is better. Schedule time in your week to not work AND do something that you like. I suggest a hobby that you find relaxing and enjoyable. You don’t have to be great at it, you just need to enjoy it.
“And he said to them, "Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while." For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat.” Mark 6:31
Schedule time in your day to rest. It might be a lunch break or a mid day coffee break. But here is the key. Turn off the phone and all other interruptions. Clear you mind and take a power nap.
“Yes, brother, I want some benefit from you in the Lord. Refresh my heart in Christ.” Philemon 1:20
Enjoy time with other people. Don’t talk shop, have fun, laugh together and be encouraged.
“he enters into peace; they rest in their beds who walk in their uprightness.” Isaiah 57:2
Get some sleep. There are lots of studies out there, but one thing is true. If you’re tired, you’re going to be stressed. Make any changes you need to make to your bedroom or sleeping environment. But get a good nights sleep.
“Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love, for in you I trust. Make me know the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.” Psalms 143:8
What do you first in the morning sets the tone for your day. If you read the news, you’re going to be anxious. If you check social media, you’re going to be distracted. Start your day with Christ. Say Ps. 143:8 every morning when you get up.
PRAY: Dear Jesus, help me to destress today. AMEN.
