BIBLE READING: Col. 1:28 - 29 28 So we tell others about Christ, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all the wisdom God has given us. We want to present them to God, perfect in their relationship to Christ. 29 That's why I work and struggle so hard, depending on Christ's mighty power that works within me.
BLOG: When your faith fails.
What do you do when your faith fails? I know. Some of you are cringing right now. Some of you might be shouting at me, "Faith never fails!" I get it. But you need to look at this passage of scripture regardless of your opinion.
Matthew 17: 14 - 21 14 And when they came to the crowd, a man came up to him and, kneeling before him,15 said, "Lord, have mercy on my son, for he has seizures and he suffers terribly. For often he falls into the fire, and often into the water. 16 And I brought him to your disciples, and they could not heal him." 17 And Jesus answered, "O faithless and twisted generation, how long am I to be with you? How long am I to bear with you? Bring him here to me." 18 And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him, and the boy was healed instantly. 19 Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, "Why could we not cast it out?" 20 He said to them, "Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you."
The disciples' faith failed. They could not heal the boy.
First of all, the problem was a demon, not an illness. Ask God to show you the mountain you are facing, not the problem.
Secondly, we know from Marks version, the father asked Jesus, "...help my unbelief!" Even the disciples came to Jesus and asked why they failed. When you feel that you are falling short, ask Jesus to help bridge the gap.
Thirdly, No one was afraid of what Jesus might say. The father and disciples both boldly approached Jesus. Jesus didn't yell at them, and he taught them. For Him, this was a moment that was going to change their lives.
What was Jesus focus? The boy? The demon in the boy? No. His focus was on their faith. "Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you." Prayer and fasting isn't about moving Jesus - it's about moving you!
PRAY: Dear Jesus move my faith to the place where I can say to my mountains, GO AWAY! AMEN
