What Are You Looking For?

BIBLE READING:  Phil 3:5-6 I was circumcised when I was eight days old. I am a pure-blooded citizen of Israel and a member of the tribe of Benjamin—a real Hebrew if there ever was one! I was a member of the Pharisees, who demand the strictest obedience to the Jewish law. 6 I was so zealous that I harshly persecuted the church. And as for righteousness, I obeyed the law without fault. (NLT)

BLOG: I heard this statement years ago. "If you go looking for money, you will find it." At the time, I thought that was an odd statement.

But leading research tends to agree.  Whatever we imagine, our brains will go into overtime to find.

Then I read in Matthew 7:7 "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

On first reading, it would seem that God is some magical golden cash card that we can use for whatever reason.  After all, He wants me to be happy that new car sure would make me happy!

Well, that's not how this works.

You need to submit to God's will.  What does He want you to have or do?  Once you know His will, then that's what you need to be asking for.

You need to live in His will. I'm going to use this illustration on Sunday.  Turn on a faucet and let the water flow.  Thirsty?  Then what do you do?  Get a glass and put it under the water. That's what it means to live in His will.  We need to be at the right place to receive His blessings on our life. Don't make God chase you.

Look for God.  Now it all comes together.  God created us.  He created us to find what we need in life.  If we are looking for Him and His blessing, presence, and empowerment, we will find it. That's why Jesus said what He said in Matthew 7.  He wants us to seek Him with all our heart, soul, and spirit.

What are you seeking your mind on right now?  Set it on knowing Jesus.  Seeing His work around you today and seeing Him create opportunities of favor for you to shine in.  Ask Him to give you the strength to face the temptations and tough parts of your day. Don't avoid them; just look for Jesus.  He will never leave you or give up on you.

PRAY:  Dear Jesus, I am looking for You in my life today.  AMEN
