I'm Back
Well, it all finally caught up with me. Betty had to go to the doctor. I had to preach Sunday. Thank you, Jesus, for a worship team that took care of everything else. But my job was to get Betty better. Now, after being out of the office for a week - God, please have mercy on our souls.
Who is the Holy Spirit, and what does He mean to you? As a general rule, most Christian religions and denominations agree on who God the Father is and who Jesus the Son is. But when it comes to the Holy Spirit, you can get a variety of answers. Some people believe that He is the "presence" of God while others think that He is some impersonal force that we can have access to.
So #1 who is the Holy Spirit? First of all, the Holy Spirit is a person. The Bible speaks of Him in that matter. John 15:26, "But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me. Secondly, He is the third member of the Trinity. Matthew 28:19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. He is no less important than God or Jesus. He is here to help you live your life in such a way as to honor God. He does through us what we cannot do on our own. Let's be honest here. Under our power, we cannot succeed at being a follower of Jesus. But with the Holy Spirit's help, we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.
That leads me to my second question. What does He mean to you? The answer to this question could be the difference between your success and failure as a follower of Jesus. Is he merely an observer in your life that you call on when in trouble? Is he your friend that you can count on every moment of every day? Do you follow His leadership, or does He spend more time trying to get you to follow Him?
A great relationship with Him will have long term life-changing effects. He will help you see the world from His point of view, lower your stress levels, and raise your hopes. Your life will be better, and your future will look brighter. I encourage you to ask Him to take a more significant role in your life and see what He will do.
PRAY: Dear Jesus, send your Holy Spirit into my life and change me to be more like You. AMEN
