I'm Scared!

Judges 7: 9 - 10  That same night the Lord said to him, “Arise, go down against the camp, for I have given it into your hand. 10 But if you are afraid to go down, go down to the camp with Purah your servant.

It was time to do some recon. God tells Gideon to go and spy on the Midianites. Now, this is a little odd. No, not the spying part. It was common for officers to spy on their enemies. But in this case, all you had to do was stand on the hill and watch. The Midianite army was so large it couldn't hide its movements. But, there was no reason to hide anything.  The Israelites were no threat.

There will be times in your life that you will face an enemy so big it will take your breath away.  You may be more familiar with this enemy than you think.  You see, this was no conquering enemy.  It was a scavenging army.  They didn't come to take your land, they came for your food and belongings.  They would leave you broke and hungry.  Then upon their return, if you didn't have what they were looking for, they would terrorize you, or worse.

That is what the enemies of your soul want to do.  They want to suck the marrow out of your bones and come back for more.  They want to drain you of all joy and hope.

Gideon was afraid.  God told him that if he was scared he should take his servant Purah.  He did.  But being scared didn't disqualify Gideon from being God's man of the hour.  Being faithless would have.  Acting on his fear with doubt would have.

Whatever enemy you are facing today.  Face it.  Take a friend with you and together see what God is doing.  You will discover God is working on your behalf.

PRAY:  Dear Jesus, please calm my fears and raise my faith today.  AMEN
