Good Works Is A Black Widow

In the Avengers there is a dark assassin nicknamed the Black Widow.  She is a bad guy who has now turned into a good guy.  One of her characteristics that drives her passion is what she calls, "the red in her ledger."

Bottom line, Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow, did a lot of bad things.  Now she is trying to balance the scales in her favor with her good works.

Ephesians 2:8-9 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

The term Black Widow is a symbol of death.  So is salvation by works.  No matter how hard you work to earn salvation, it will only kill you.

1 Corinthians 13:1 - 3 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.

Salvation is God's love extended to you and accepted by you.

Salvation is by grace, through faith in Jesus.  He is the Son of God and He gave His life on a cross for our sins.  He rose from the dead to provide us with life today and for all of eternity.  It is a gift - you cannot earn it.

PRAY:  Dear Jesus, let my faith produce good works, but never let me believe that my good works will save me.  AMEN
