How To Destroy Your Idols.

Judges 6: 25 - 27 25 That night the Lord said to him, “Take your father's bull, and the second bull seven years old, and pull down the altar of Baal that your father has, and cut down the Asherah that is beside it 26 and build an altar to the Lord your God on the top of the stronghold here, with stones laid in due order. Then take the second bull and offer it as a burnt offering with the wood of the Asherah that you shall cut down.” 27 So Gideon took ten men of his servants and did as the Lord had told him. But because he was too afraid of his family and the men of the town to do it by day, he did it by night.

So you've discovered that there is something in your life that is getting more attention and affection than God.  What do you do?

I've heard people say, "That's ok, I'll just stop."  (Insert laughter here.)  They never "just" stop.

First of all, tell God that you're sorry for what you did and that you need His help to change.  Believe me, you need His help.

Secondly,  you've got to want to give God more attention and affection than the idol.  Take the time, money or attention that you were giving away and give it to God.  Now don't be surprised if your eyes suddenly get really, really big.  You will be amazed at how much money, time or even worse affection you were wasting.

Now idols don't go down quietly.  Don't be surprised if your friends or family come and tempt you to return.  Don't be surprised if some ridicule or mock you for your decision.  But that leads to the next step.

Worship God on the ruins of your idol.  Give thanks to God that you don't serve that stupid little worthless idol anymore.  Give thanks that you don't have to do it's bidding anymore.  Free at last, free at last - thank God Almighty you are free at last.

Gideon destroyed Baal and worshipped God on its charred ruins.  I bet that felt good and I know that God was pleased with it.  Don't be embarrassed if you have an idol in your life.  Destroy it and rejoice that you've been set free from it.

PRAY:  Dear Jesus, I worship You from the ruins of those things that kept me from You.  AMEN
