Stop Doing Stupid In 3 Steps.

We've all done stupid things.  Some stupider than others. (Apparently, stupider is a word!) 

We all know that there levels of stupid. 
- There is that thing you did because you were not paying attention.  Once in Bible College, I was walking to the chapel and didn't see the 4x4 steel post in the middle of the sidewalk.  That was stupid. 

- There is the level of stupid that comes from being misinformed.  Like the time I ate a whole habanero pepper.  Lesson learned, ask what kind of pepper you are eating before you pop the whole thing in your mouth.  That hurt.  

- Then there is the level of stupid that comes from being selfish.  This you can do something about.  Early in my marriage, I was selfish.  I wasn't trying to be selfish, I didn't want to be selfish - but I was selfish.  My selfishness almost got me in divorce court.  It was when I realized that this wasn't about, "me" but it was about, "us".  That when things began to turn around.  But you still don't get it. 

"Us" wasn't Betty and myself.  It was Betty, myself and God.  So here is my formula that helps me stop doing stupid stuff.  

Deut. 6: 4 - 6 4 “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 6 And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart.

Moses is speaking to the nation of Israel and teaches them how to behave.  
#1 - There is only one God. 
#2 - You are not God. (It's implied) 
#3 - If you spend your time worshipping the One True God you will not have a chance to do stupid stuff. 

When you give anything that belongs to God to someone or something else, like yourself, it is idolatry.  Your time, your resources, your talents, your life all belong to Him.  Idolatry is stupid.  It separates you from God and from His blessings.  That's stupid.  Then your life will reap the results of your stupidity.  

Admit that there is only one God and that you are not Him.  Then use your life to honor Him in everything that you say and do.  Or in other words, do not give yourself room to be selfish.  

PRAY:  Dear Jesus, I want to worship You instead of being stupid today.  AMEN

Today is Mothers Day.  On this day:  More people purchase fresh flowers and plants for Mother's Day than for any other holiday except Christmas/Hanukkah. In 2019, the National Retail Federation (NRF) estimates that US consumers will spend $25 billion celebrating Mother's Day. Shoppers will spend an average of $196.00 on Mom. Betty doesn’t like me blogging about her too much. So let me go with one more for now and let you see a bit of her heart.  She doesn’t like the world any better now than when she gave birth to Anneka. (Neither do I.)   If you think that’s a strange thing to say, you’re right. But let me explain myself.  The idea that a child will make your world a better place isn’t accurate. Stop shouting at the screen. Just keep reading.   Before we got pregnant, both of us had enough wisdom to understand what we were doing, in as much as we knew that this would change our lives.  Would it be for the better?
