Don't Play God - It's Not Worth It.
Exodus 20:3 You shall have no other gods before me.
Yes, this is one of the ten commandments, and most people don't believe that they break it. God makes it clear to us that He will not tolerate idol worship in our lives.
Idol worship is giving to anything else what belongs to God. Time, money, praise, talents - you get the picture.
But what about when you play God. Are you not worshipping yourself? When you decide to take control of your life and do God's job for Him, you're displacing Him from His rightful place in your life.
A few years ago I was in a particularly tough position in my life. Nothing immoral or illegal, but tough. I did everything I could do to fix the situation. I very successfully and spectrally made everything worse. In my frustration, I looked up to heaven and said, "Why God why?" I wasn't really looking for an answer, but I got one. It was simple and direct. "When are you going to let me be God in your life." THUD! This truth hit me hard, and I broke.
When you try to do God's job for Him, the following will happen.
- You will fail. It will be painful.
- He will let you fail. Some people think that God doesn't care when He lets them fail. It isn't that at all. He's just willing to let you learn your lessons the hard way.
- You will repent. There will come a time when your pain is greater than your desire to be in control. At that moment you will admit that He is God and you are not.
PRAY: Dear Jesus. You are the King and Lord of my life today. AMEN
