Connecting to People

This blog may sound more like a leadership blog than a spiritual blog but bear with me.

The old saying is, "It isn't what you know, it's who you know."  Well, there is truth to that, but let's take that a little farther.

"It isn't what you know; it's who you know and how you treat them."  Years ago people paid for IQ.  You could have the personality of a rabid squirrel, but that didn't matter.  You were paid for your knowledge.  Today that isn't true.

Knowledge is cheap.  As Google or YouTube, they know everything.  So if knowledge isn't the key to your future, what is?

Ephesians 4:32 Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

The key to your success is your ability connect to people in a real and meaningful way.

Years ago I went to a car dealership to buy a used car.  The salesman was highly motivated to sell me a car.  He told me all about it and then proceeded to put the paperwork in front of me to sign.  Again and again, I said no.  He held my car hostage just to get me to sign.  He called the manager in to "seal the deal."  There was no deal to seal!  After ripping the managers head off (figuratively speaking), I walked into the foyer of this large dealership and starting talking very loudly about how I couldn't get my car back because they were trying to force me to buy a car I didn't want.  I have never set foot in that dealership ever again.

I went down the road and drove into another dealership.  The salesman asked me how my day was going.  I informed him of what had happened.  He said, "Get in this car."  Confused I said, "But I don't want to buy this car."  He said, "I know that, but it isn't about the car."  OK then!  We drove down the road, and the salesman told me how he was going to proceed.  Step by step he described to me how he was going to sell me a car, what I should expect.  If anything doesn't go the way, he explained it to me that I was to tell him and he would correct it.  I bought a car.

Care before you share - don't tell and sell.  People will care about you AFTER you care about them.

PRAY,  Dear Jesus, help me to care about everyone in my life today.  AMEN.
