The Lost Christmas Gifts

I heard it this morning.  I hear it every year.  I cringe when I hear it.  I know it's true and there is nothing I can do about it.

Betty (my wife) "I know I bought more presents, but I don't have any idea where I put them."

It's the same conversation every year.  A present arrives early (August or September), Betty walks into my office and asks, "I've got to hide this until Christmas."  I say, "Don't forget where you put it!!"  "I won't" is her response.  All the while we both know what is going to happen.

(HA!  I just checked one of her usual hiding spots and found another present!  But I know there's more.)

Here is the odd thing.  We will not find these presents until sometime between March and June.  (Don't ask me why - but that's the way it works.)  We have found some presents six months later and just held on to them for next Christmas.  True!

Luke 4: 18 - 19  18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.  He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed,  19 to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.” (ESV)

Jesus came with a mission in mind.  His mission is our mission.  To worship Him with all our heart, soul and spirit.  To share the Good News that embracing and accepting a relationship with Him is what we need today and always.  What a gift - right?

But some people have misplaced this gift.  They know that they have it - but it is sitting in some dark place in their life, lost until they go looking for it.  Don't misplace what Jesus has done for you.  Don't replace it with some cheap imitation.  Don't trivialize it and put it on a shelf just to look at.  Don't marginalize it by allowing something else to be more important.

Salvation through Jesus is God's gift to you - and it is the most important one you will ever have.

PRAY:  Dear Jesus, help me to remember the gift of life that you have to give me.  Without you, I would have no hope.  Let me live my life like I just received the greatest gift of my life today.  AMEN!
