When Things Are Not Going Your Way
My kids are doing what I expect of them. By employer isn't keeping their promises. My marriage seems to be getting worse. I don't think God is hearing my prayers. Who cares?
When things are not going our way - we need to ask ourselves a few things.
Is the direction you are going in, the direction you should be going in? I drive to Lakeland quite frequently. One day a friend of mine suggested a new route to my destination. I thought, "Why not?" After the trip I remembered why I choose my original route. Just because someone thinks that they have a better way, doesn't mean that it is.
Is your destination you are trying to reach the destination you should be trying to reach? One time I got in the car with my family and started driving. My wife asked me, "Where are we going?" I said that I was going to keep driving until I felt better. (I don't suggest that you do this.) Well after a hundred miles, my wife was wondering if Maine was going to be far enough (We live in Florida). Well, another 30 miles later and I felt better. The reason for the trip was simple. I wanted to go to be in a place where the phones didn't drive me crazy and I wasn't continually being interrupted every 5 minutes. I wanted to go to a place where I could hear from God. I needed to know where I was going with God.
Are you going in the direction you are suppose to be going in and headed to the destination you are suppose to be reaching - but you're going to slow? Years ago, I was listening to a radio broadcast. The traffic report came on and I kid you not, the announcer was having a melt down. On 1 95 in Ft. Lauderdale, some contractor decided to shut down all but 1 lane of the interstate during rush hour. It got ugly!! There was a another time through that on the Turnpike, just to keep up with traffic, I had to drive at 105 miles an hour. There are times when life will go to slow and times when it will go to fast. That is a fact. Just be glad that you are moving!
Take time to ask God about what you are doing and how you are doing it. Remember: what AND how. Answering these two questions will help you be secure in yourself. If you are doing what God wants you to, when He wants you to do it - then you have nothing to worry about.
