Sunday Night Reflections

Praise and Worship was AWESOME! Time in the altars I believe will change lives. Truths that Jay spoke of are life changing and we need to remember them. The sanctuary looked full ( it wasn't ) but it looked good anyway. Conversations during Sunday School were great!! Churches growing is always exciting!

iLive

Image
This month I have been speaking in the youth group a series entitled iLive. Each week has a different theme. So far I have spoke on iLive to be like Jesus iLive to worship God Tonight's title is: iLive to be a great friend. Next week iLive to change my world.

What a Great Day!

Sunday School was awesome this morning. Talking about worship from Romans 12. Great conversation and great thought. Then I opened up Mark Battersons blog, which you can read here, and there is Romans 12 again! The service was awesome too! God did move in peoples lives and He spoke directly to us. I especially enjoyed the prophecy that encouraged us to expect more, to believe for more of Him in our lives. I did a little sermonette because of time, but I noticed after church that many people stayed around and fellowshiping. Learning to be a church is often as hard as being the church. God knows what He is doing and trusting Him to take care of us through ever situation and circumstance is necessary.

Pants on the Ground

My wife kept telling me about this video from American Idol called "Pants on the Ground". Now I can't go anywhere without hearing someone say "Pant's on the ground!" Weird I know!

Haiti Disaster Relief

This Sunday we will be receiving a special offering to help relief efforts in Haiti. We have 2 missionaries, orphanages and churches which represent nearly 66,000 Assemblies of God believers. Of course it will take some time to discover the lose of life and damage that has occurred, but we want to extend the love of Christ and compassion of our hearts to them. If you would like to know more about what the AG is doing, please watch our General Superintendent George O Wood address this matter in a video message here.

On The Road Again

Yesterday I spent 4 hours driving. Once to Lake Worth and then to Boyton Beach. The first was a pastors prayer meeting. Really the frist of it's kind for us here in the AG. I believe that we are going to see more of these in the near future. So for my pastor friends in WPB area - there will be another meeting next month at Bethel AG in Lake Worth. Then the second was was To Victory Bible Institute in Boyton Beach. There Kevin Slack is training up 20 or so ministry students who have a desire to serve God with their lives. Taking about 30 minutes to share with them some of the realities of ministry, "Without scaring them away." was my assignment. It was fun and I always enjoy getting to invest my life into those up and coming ministers who are going to make a difference for Jesus. In a few weeks I get to do this again at the District School of Ministry. Except there I am teaching Synoptic Gospels. (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) I have always thought that these

The Old Sign Comes Down

This sign was originally installed by Pastor Larry Foskey in the late 60's. Of course many pastors changed it and upgraded it over time. But yesterday it had to be replaced with a new sign.

Brit Hume and Tiger Woods, part 2

Image
Remember the video I posted a couple of days ago on Brit Hume ? Well I suspected that it would hit the fan and it did. My friend Randy picked up on it and share this blog entry from Ann Coulter Where she says, "Someone mentioned Christianity on television recently and liberals reacted with their usual howls of rage and blinking incomprehension. ..." Oh it gets better!! Read it in it's entirety. you may not agree with everything, but I guarantee that you are going to say "Amen!" a few times.

The 12 Days of Christmas - Day 1

Image
Day 1 - On the 1st day of Christmas my true love gave to me... A Partridge in a Pear Tree The partridge in a pear tree is Jesus the Christ, the Son of God. In the song, Christ is symbolically presented as a mother partridge that feigns injury to decoy predators from her helpless nestlings, recalling the expression of Christ's sadness over the fate of Jerusalem: "Jerusalem! Jerusalem! How often would I have sheltered you under my wings, as a hen does her chicks, but you would not have it so . . . ." (Luke 13:34) Today is also Three Kings Day or what some call Epiphany. It is always celebrated the 12th day after Christmas, marking the end of the Christmas holiday. The holiday celebrates the manifestation of Christ to the Gentiles, represented by the magi (see Simeon’s prophecy in Luke 2:32). For some, Epiphany also commemorates the baptism of Jesus (Luke 3:21-22) and His turning water into wine (John 2:1-11)—manifestations of Christ’s divinity to the world. Regardless o

The 12 Days of Christmas - Day 2

Day 2 - On the 2nd day of Christmas my true love gave to me... Two Turtle Doves The Old and New Testaments, which together bear witness to God's self-revelation in history and the creation of a people to tell the Story of God to the world. The Word of God, the Holy Bible, God's Message - Whatever you call it, it is the truth. All of it from Genesis to Revelation. When it is closed and sitting on your coffee table, it's still true. If you turn to page 157 or 345, it's still true. When it says God created . . . that's true too! In a day and time when people want proof about everything, what can we say - what can we do? Where is the proof? We are the living proof that the Bible is true. When we hid the Word in our hearts we begin to live it's truths out in our world. There is no way that the world can't notice the difference. When the world says lie, we tell the truth. When the world says cheat, we say don't. When the world says take it all, we

YouVersion Reading Plans

Image
Did you make a resolution to read the Bible this year? Great!! It isn't as hard as you might think. Here are a few keys to unlocking your success. Use a reading plan. Just reading whatever, whenever, never works. Go to YouVersion.com and pick a plan that suits you right now. "Variety is the spice of life" someone once said. It is true that your devotional time with God can get boring. There is nothing wrong with changing it up a bit. Pray in a different place, read aloud rather than silently, write your prayers down instead of speaking them. Keep a journal. Most people cringe at this one, but it is easy. Get a notebook, a pen or pencil and do the following. 1) Write down the date. 2) Write down anything from God's Word that impress you in some way. 3) Write down what you are praying about today. Start here and your journaling experience will expand with time. Pick a version, not a paraphrase, of the Bible that you understand. Different version exist t

The 12 Days of Christmas - Day 3

Image
Day 3 - On the 3rd day of Christmas my true love gave to me... Three French Hens The Three Theological Virtues: 1) Faith, 2) Hope, and 3) Love (1 Corinthians 13:13) What are you going to take to heaven? Most people answer in the negative. You can't take anything with you. But that isn't exactly true. Here Paul tells us what is eternal, what is in our hearts and what we can take with us. Our Faith in Christ, Our Hope in His Promises and Our Love for Him. These of which, He gives us - generously. One of the things about these three is that they are foundational to our relationship with Jesus. There is not relationship without faith, there is no future without hope and there is no reason to have a relationship without love. It is no wonder that these are the three key areas where Satan attacks Christians? Remove the reason for a life changing connection with Christ and like old friendships, they will just fade away.

The 12 Days of Christmas - Day 4

Image
Day 4 - On the 4th day of Christmas my true love gave to me... Four Calling Birds The Four Gospels: 1) Matthew, 2) Mark, 3) Luke, and 4) John, which proclaim the Good News of God's reconciliation of the world to Himself in Jesus Christ. In a few weeks I have the privilege of teaching a group of Bible students the Synoptic Gospels. That's Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. The first thing I say in this class is this, "If is wasn't for Matthew, Mark, Luke and John you wouldn't have any hope or a future. Jesus is the central character in each of these books and as such we discover that He is the Son of God, the doctrine of divine healing, forgiveness, mercy, grace and a host of other aspects to our theology that are critical. In fact if you remove these four books from the Bible you have nothing. If you don't know the Gospels, you don't know Jesus." Enough said.

The 12 Days of Christmas - Day 5

Image
Day 5 - On the 5th day of Christmas my true love gave to me... Five Gold Rings The first Five Books of the Old Testament, known as the Torah or the Pentateuch: 1) Genesis, 2) Exodus, 3) Leviticus, 4) Numbers, and 5) Deuteronomy, which gives the history of humanity's sinful failure and God's response of grace in the creation of a people to be a light to the world Oh the Fiveeeeeee Gooooooldn Riiiiiiiiings! (Your singing it now!) Remove the first 5 books of the Bible and what would you loose? Creation, The Fall of Man (which explains why life isn't fair), God's Promise for the salvation of mankind, The flood, The creation of Israel, The Ten Commandments, Moses and the Exodus, The Law of Moses . . . What would life be like without all of this? We would never know where we come from. We would never know why life is such a struggle. The guidelines of our relationship with God and each other wouldn't be clearly defined. That God does have His limits on what He w

The 12 Days of Christmas - Day 6

Image
Day 6 - On the 6th day of Christmas my true love gave to me... Six Geese A-laying The six days of creation that confesses God as Creator and Sustainer of the world (Genesis 1). This one doesn't seem to be a real big deal, but look again. What would life be like if we didn't have a Creator or Sustainer? No one to go to in our hour of need. No way of know where we came from or where we were going? The need to know that God is there is very, very important to us. Now there are those who would say that I am fantasizing about a unrealistic dream and that I use religion as a crutch. Because I am a pastor they would even go as far as to say that I lead people down this delusional path to their doom too! That religion should be abolished and that God has never nor will ever exist. Well here is what I know. I have prayed for the sick and they have been healed. I have seen cancer disappear, HIV go away, legs grow, the lame walk, the deaf hear and lives completely changed. All
