Ever since my daughter could pronounce the word "allergies" she has been asking God to heal her of them. Now she is 6 years old and this has been going on for a couple of years. Every time we have a prayer line in church, she is there. She walks up, I say, "Allergies?" she nods her head yes and we pray. So here are a few things that I noticed about this.
Why did she do this. Well there are a couple of reasons. First of all she really does believe that God answers prayer and that God heals. One of the things which I allow in morning worship is children. Now I know that all churches cannot do this, so don't get the idea that you are going to try the same thing - I'm just saying that it works for us. They get to see what we see. So Anneka has seen people worship, pray and she has seen God answer prayer right before her very eyes. That's all she needs! She believe God answers prayer.
The other reason why she seeks Gods healing is really, really simple. She loves animals and she wants a cat. But her mother and I, in our esteemed wisdom, have told her - no cats! All the sneezing, runny noses, rashes - it isn't pretty people. So - no cat.
Then a few weeks ago someone heard about Annekas need and her desire to love animals. (FYI - this also includes dogs, horses, guinea pigs and anything else with fur.) So they said that they had a cat for her. Remember our esteemed wisdom, no cats! This is a special cat. A hypo-allergenic Ragdoll. Google it. "Really" I thought. I didn't believe that there were such animals. That it was all marketing hype. So I put it all to the test and said, "Bring the cat, if she doesn't have an allergic reaction to it, she can have the cat." Be careful what you pray for and be careful what you promise. After a few hours with the cat, not allergic reactions of any kind. My daughter pet, held, and literally put her face in that cats fur. Nothing, absolutely nothing.
We are now the proud owner of a beautiful cat named Latte. (Well he is the color of Latte.) Sweet kind and very, very gentle.
So to end this story I had to ask myself. Did God answer Annekas prayer? Well I asked her and this was her answer. "Yes, He did! Maybe he didn't heal me of my alleriges - yet! But He did give me Latte!" Yes He did, and the moral to this story is, God answers prayer, just not necessarily the way you planned on it.
