John 19 - Choices

Is it so hard for us to understand the sacrifices that people make for what they believe in? Islamic extremists who commit suicide. Roman Catholics who crawl on their hands and knees for miles to be healed. Buddhist monks who set themselves on fire in protest. But why?

But to have a faith so great that you are willing to do what God asks you to do, even if it is to give up your life. That kind of faith is rare. Most of us would like to believe that we have that kind of faith, but do we? John 19:10-11 (NLT) “…Don’t you realize I have the power to release you or crucify you?’ (Pilate speaking) Then Jesus said, ‘You would have no power over me at all unless it were given to you from above’ …”

Jesus has the faith to believe that the blind would see, the deaf would hear, the lame would walk, the dead would live, to walk on water, cast out demons, be temporarily transfigured so he could have a conversations with Elijah and Moses and to change 12 disciples into the future of faith for all mankind. But the ultimate act of faith was dying on the cross. I know that it was His ultimate act of love towards us - but He had to believe that this is what His Father in Heaven wanted Him to do. He was right of course, but what faith it took to suffer and die.

Do we have that kind of faith? Maybe. Over the last 21 days many of you have discovered that you can do something you thought you could never do before. As a result you have changed! Many of you have told me how God has spoken to you and changed you in some significant way. 21 days ago you would have probably admitted that you couldn't pray for someone and believe they would be healed, but now? So, how great is your faith?

My Prayer Today: Dear Jesus, I admit I have areas of my life that fall short. I know that I need you to increase my faith and believe for more of You. Please help me to believe that I can make a difference by my faith in You in other peoples lives. I do seek You with all my heart, soul, mind and strength. Help me Jesus, help my flesh to die daily and to believe in You! In Jesus Name I pray - Amen!
