John 11 - Do The Math

John 11

As we continue to pray and fast we are also reading the book of John. 21 chapters, 21 days. Today is day 11 thus, John 11. Here we see that our devotional key verse is,

Our devotional writer points out in verse 22 where Martha says, "But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask." Some have taken that statement to say that Martha believed Jesus would raise Lazarus from the dead. In fact it doesn't. Raising Lazarus from the dead wasn't on the list of options she had thought of. Is wasn't that she didn't believe that He was the Son of God, verse 27 "Yes, Lord," she told him, "I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who was to come into the world." She just didn't think that it would happen this way.

Well, if you do the math, Lazarus had died shortly after the messengers sent to get Jesus had left his side. Jesus wasn't going to get there in time to heal Him anyway. That doesn't stop Jesus from dealing with the situation anyway.

Lesson #1 - Here is the math that we need to apply to our problems. Our problems + Jesus = Solution. Now if your like me, your not that good at math. I can look at an algebra problem and, well, I'm done. How those formulas work - I don't know. But I do know that for those who do understand that stuff they can build bridges, launch rockets, forecast weather and do great things because of it. It is the same with Jesus, we can look at the problem, but He understands the solution.

Lesson #2 - We believe that Jesus is the Son of God. That isn't the problem. It isn't that we lack faith - it's that we lack understand of who He is. A) Never assume that you know everything about Him. You don't and you can't. B) There are things about Jesus you have yet to experience. You are not at the end of the road, but you are somewhere in the middle. C) Trust Him. God knows what He is doing. Even if in the natural it is too late, it is never too late.

My Prayer: Jesus, I need your help. I don't want to be selfish. I don't want to limit You. I don't want to be in control. I do trust you in all things - even when it seems like it is over, I know that it isn't. You are the Son of God and I believe in You! In Jesus name I pray - Amen!
