Condemned

How many of you guessed that I am in Romans 8? Well you are right. " 1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death."

I believe that Paul was trying to convey a message of hope rather than just stating a fact. However, it depends upon your perspective doesn't it? If you are condemned, being released is wonderful! If you have already entrusted your life to Jesus, then it would seem that this scripture is a bit anti-climactic. But not so. Read on.

"And so he (Jesus) condemned sin in sinful man, 4 in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us,..." Jesus, who now lives in our hearts, condemned sin for us! If your not getting this yet keep reading.

The Old Testament Law was powerless to forgive people of their sins because the sacrifice needed for that couldn't be offered. As great as Abraham, Moses, David and others were in the Old Testament, if they had been sacrificed upon a cross, it would have been pointless. They were sinners and there had to be a sinless sacrifice to set mankind free from their condemnation. Only Jesus could do that. But realize what else He did.

"And so he (Jesus) condemned sin in sinful man..." Jesus was a man, but because He was conceived by the Holy Spirit through Mary - a virgin - He was born without sin. He lived His life without sinning thus died upon the cross as the perfect sacrifice needed to secure forgiveness of sins. So instead of sin condemning us to an eternity in hell, Jesus condemned sin to it's eternal punishment.

Sin has no hold or power over you any more, as long as we don't "live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit." So condemn your sins into their rightful place. If you are still lamenting about things you have done in the past, get rid of them! If you have accepted Jesus into your heart and asked Him to forgive you, He has. So do what Jesus did. Condemn your sins to a place where you will never be, you will never visit, where they will never haunt you ever again. Hell is the place where they will go and heaven is the place prepared for you. It's ok to live your life like that beginning today! "Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus..."
