What Is Normal?

There is a phrase that each of use again and again.  We use it to reassure people.  We use it to help people come to terms with something.  It is this.  "Oh, that's normal."

Normal defined means to conform to the common behavior of society.  The problem is, standards are always changing.  What is, "normal" today may not be tomorrow.  This makes normal frustrating.

Matthew 24:37-39 37 For as were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 38 For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, 39 and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.
Normal, for the follower of Jesus, isn't based on culture.  It's based on the Word of God.  To have a Biblical point of view.

Jesus is being quoted in Matthew 24.  He is, in essence, saying, normal for the world will be like it was just before the world was destroyed by the Great Flood.

Marriage, family, and life will have little value.
Corruption and crime will be acceptable.
Hedonism and selfishness will be the rule of the day.
Faithlessness and atheism will be normal.
Man will think that he is a god.

So what is normal for the follower of Jesus?

It is normal for God to keep His promises.
Deuteronomy 7:9  Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations,

It is normal to exhibit the fruit of the Spirit.
Galatians 5:22-23  22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

It is normal to go to church, to love others and to worship God with all of your heart, soul, and strength.  It will be normal to tell others about your faith.  It is normal to trust God.  But you and I live in a world where the truth of Gods Word is allowed to be interpreted by culture.  What was clear becomes confusing.  What was understood is now misrepresented.  Pray that the Holy Spirit will keep your heart clear and that you will continue to feed His Word into your life every day.

PRAY:  Dear Jesus, help me to keep Your truth the center of my life every day.  AMEN
