When You've Lost Hope

Losing hope is a terrible thing.  When you've lost hope it threatens your very existence.  When you perceive that threat, real or not, your brain goes into overdrive to protect itself.  This also applies to things and people who you consider to be close and/or important to you.  Unless something derails your brain, you're doomed to disaster.

The marriage, you did everything that you could to save it - but it failed.
That start-up business, you did everything right - but it didn't work.
Your kids, you raised them right - but they didn't turn out the way you hoped.

What happened?

I've quoted this verse before. Proverbs 13:12 Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a desire fulfilled is a tree of life.

If there is no hope, or if you have to wait too long for it, you will want to give up.  Depression will set in and discouragement will gnaw at your bones.  What do you do?

Find hope.

Hope isn't some kind of fairy dust you find at Disneyworld.  It is a real and tangible part of your life.

#1 - Find it's source.
Psalm 121:1-2  1 I lift up my eyes to the hills.  From where does my help come?  2 My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.

God gives hope - just ask for it!

#2 - Accept it by faith.
Romans 8: 24 For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees?

I know the old say, "Seeing is believing."  But in the case of hope, you have to believe in something that you cannot see.

#3 - Believe what God says long before what the "facts" say.
Matthew 21:21  And Jesus answered them, “Truly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ it will happen.

Facing an impossible mountain?  Don't lose faith.  Believe what He tells you.  God never lies.

PRAY:  Dear Jesus, I need Your hope today.  AMEN!
