It wasn't about the 5 Dollars.

Zechariah 4:6 Then he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts.

If you are going to put your trust in God believe me when I say, it tests your resolve.  It's easy to do when you have everything you need.  But what do you do when God asks you for your last dollar?  That happened to me once.

Betty and I were in our first year of marriage which was also our last year of college.  We were living on a pretty tight budget, and this was the week when all the bills came due.  After paying the bills, we were left with $5.  It was Sunday night, so we went to church.  A missionary was speaking that evening, and at the end of the service, the pastor announced a special offering to help him.  I don't remember the missionary, but I do remember God telling me, "Give the $5"  "What?"  I thought.  "Are you kidding me?"  My plans for the $5 was to go to McDonald's and have dinner.  (Yes Virginia, there was a time when two people could have dinner for $5.)  God was pressing in, and I submitted.

After service, I told Betty what I had done, and she agreed it was the right thing to do.  As we were leaving the church, a stranger walked up to me and said, "God told me to give this to you tonight with these instructions.  Take your wife out to dinner."  He presses $20 into my hand and walks away.

God taught me a couple of lessons that night.  #1 - It wasn't about the $5, it was about my obedience. #2 - God will take care of me.  That evening we had a very nice dinner, and it wasn't at McDonald's.

PRAY:  Dear Jesus, I want to obey you.  Help me to listen and follow your voice every day.  AMEN
