Hebrews 11 has been called the Chapter of Faith in the Bible. It's a who's who list of people who exercised great faith. If you were to do a character study of each of the people named, you would discover a theme.
Their faith was always challenged. Either by people or through circumstances these people had to make a choice. Believe in God and follow His ways or do nothing. While I am sure there were a few that were challenged to renounce their faith, most were challenged just to believe in God and do nothing.
The same temptation faces you today. It is easy to sit by and do nothing and expect someone else's faith to make the difference. Let your faith have the chance to rise to the challenge. The initiative is all that God needs - let's see what God can do.
The price for faith was always high. Sometimes we read about these great people of faith and think to ourselves, "Really?" I believe that there were some of them who thought the same thing. But greater faith always requires a more significant challenge.
If you are facing divorce, bankruptcy, terminal illness or a long term problem you understand. But there is hope. #1 Jesus showed us that we a little bit of faith we can do big things. Luke 17:5 - 6
#2 There is the gift of faith from the Holy Spirit. 1 Cor 12. When you need that supernatural shot of faith to get you through the toughest of times.
The reward was always greater than the price. What these people gained for their faithfulness was higher than the price they paid. Moses converted a group of slaves into a nation. Gideon led that nation into a period of peace and prosperity. David united a loose group of tribes into a world power.
Keep your eye on Jesus purpose and goal in your life. Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
They believed in something yet to come. All of the people mentioned in this chapter were believing that the Messiah would come. All of them were faithful to something they couldn't see.
You believe that Jesus is coming back to call His Church home. The Rapture. Live like it is going to happen today and see how that changes your faith!
P.S. For those of you who read Russjones.us via email. You've probably noticed that I have struggled with it this week. I apologize for that. I got food poison Tuesday night and have been recovering from it ever since.
