Which Church Should I Attend?

Good Question.  If you haven't been attending church frequently, but did this past Easter, you might be interested in incorporating God and His Church into your life and that of your family.

First of all, ask yourself why?  If you are attending church in order to "fix" what's wrong with you and/or your family.  You're going for the wrong reasons.  Simply put, church isn't a place where you get repaired.  IT IS a place where you connect to Jesus and discover HEALING.  I've watched people come to church for years.  I can tell you - the ones who had selfish reasons left for selfish reasons.  But the ones who came to humble themselves to God discovered more than what they needed.

Next, embrace a few facts.  #1 - You're going to go to church where you are comfortable.  You will find people like yourself there.  There will be friends and people who have similar likes and dislikes.   #2 - The culture of the church most likely will fit you too.  Their music is your music.  Their points of view are similar to yours too. #3 - If you have kids, they will have a kids ministry.  (Youth, nursery, etc.)  Not that you should choose the church you attend solely on this fact, (I've seen some parents do that) but it's an important one to you.

Try to fit in.  PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE remember this.  The people who are the greeters, ushers, workers etc. are volunteers.  They don't do this for a living.  So if they don't meet the expectations that you might have, let it go.  (Usually) they're not mean, (hey, we've all had a bad day) they genuinely do care about you and are happy to have you there.  It does really matter a lot to them.  Here are few tips on how you can help them.  A. Smile  B. Shake their hand  C. Tell them your first name.  D. If you have any questions, ASK!!  If they don't know, they will find out for you!  That's all you have to do!

Check out their theology.  THIS IS IMPORTANT!  I'm not going to get to specific here.  But here are a few things that you don't want to compromise on.
Jesus is the Son of God, He came and lived His life like you and I.  Died on a cross for our sins and rose from the grave three days later.  He is currently in heaven, overseeing our lives.  If they don't believe this,  RUN!
Salvation is by grace, through faith,  NOT OF WORKS!  You have to repent of your sins, (1 Jn 1:9; Rom 10:9 - 10).  "Doing good deeds" doesn't get you into heaven - ever!  If they say it does, RUN!
The Bible is the Inspired and only Word of God.  If they have "another" book or if they have "their" version of the Bible. - RUN!!
They believe in the Trinity.  God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Ghost.  If they say things like:  "The trinity is a freakish three headed god" or "there is no Trinity".  Well.... you know what to do!

Here are a few quick tips.
- If the church you attended last Sunday MOSTLY fits this.  GO BACK!!  This Sunday!
- You're never going to find a perfect church.  I've seen people who have spent years looking for the "right" church!  Do you think that God really wanted them to do that?  NO!  So don't get to carried away.
